Birthing a song

I often refer to the process of writing a song as it sort of a “coming into the world”.

For me it’s like that. One minute I don’t have a thing on my mind, and then this melody appears, or a beat, or guitar lick, or an idea, or whatever. I may sit on it for years or just seconds. But once the final recording is complete, to me it’s like that song was “born” into the world. No matter how intimate the process is, the moment it is “birthed” it seems to have always been destined. In that regard that song has sovereignty and is really no longer mine. When I listen to a song like Jenna, which is now over 20 years old, I enjoy it exactly the way a fan would. It’s no longer  “my song”

It just is.

That’s why I enjoy writing and recording under Aketous. I can detach myself even more from the music and enjoy it NOW, the same way anyone else does. It’s my life, my stories but I still find something new buried in my own lyrics. It’s very mystical to me. Or maybe better said- spiritual.
