From Moscow to Beijing and back to D.C. the only real truth that is calling to me, is I can’t wait to get back home to you.

When I wrote Everyone’s a Spy, it was intended to be a “bridge track” from the sort of “Dance Rock” side of Ulterior Motives to the more story telling, heavier guitar side of the album. But, I said “Eff it, this is going to be a pre-album single, and I don’t care if it is radio friendly or not.” Sort of like when I released From the Center as a single last year. Sometimes a songs story is just begging to be highlighted. This idea and chorus had been in my head so long that by the time I recorded it, it felt like I had heard it a 1000 times. That’s how close I got this to my orginal idea. As a songwriter, I can’t ignore that. This entire album is like that. Hell! I might release all 17 tracks as a single. This is my best work and nothing will rival it.

Darren Farris Steps Away From Aketous To Release Solo Album Ulterior Motives

Launches New Era With Two New Singles Ahead of His Forthcoming Solo Album Ulterior Motives

LOS ANGELES – Oct. 16, 2026 — American singer‑songwriter Darren Farris has officially launched a new era in his career with the release of two new singles: Round and Round, released yesterday, and Everyone’s a Spy, arriving in five days. These tracks introduce his forthcoming solo album Ulterior Motives, marking his sixth full‑length release since his 2008 debut album Psychopathic Issues.

Round and Round opens the new chapter with a blend of rock‑and‑roll roots, modern electronic elements, and the poetic lyricism that has defined Farris’s writing since the beginning of his career. The track echoes the emotional intensity found in artists such as The Killers, Muse, and Coldplay, while maintaining a distinct melodic identity.

Farris emphasizes the importance of songwriting as a literary art form.
“If I’m going to be remembered at all, I’d rather be remembered as a poet. Words can stand on their own for decades. Even if the melody fades with time, someone a hundred years from now can read the lyrics and still feel exactly what I meant.”

The upcoming single Everyone’s a Spy expands the sonic palette further. Built on a foundation of rock sensibilities, the track incorporates Alt Rock ‑infused energy, layered guitars, and a melodic intensity shaped by Farris’s multi‑genre upbringing.

“There’s always this unforgivable but unrepentant melodic streak in my music. I grew up in an era when radio stations played everything — pop, rock, R&B, country — and we just called it Rock and Roll. Even when a track leans electronic, a rocker can hear the edge buried in the layers.”

Ulterior Motives marks a return to personal storytelling for Darren Farris. The album blends rock frameworks with modern production and poetic lyricism, drawing influence from artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Daft Punk, David Bowie, and The Smashing Pumpkins. The project represents a creative threshold — a moment of reinvention following his conceptual work under the Aketous moniker.

Farris describes this transition as a personal Rubicon.
“This is the moment I stopped negotiating with the past. Every track is a signal flare from the other side of who I used to be.”

Darren Farris first gained national attention with his 2008 album Psychopathic Issues, which produced the singles Jenna, Save Me, and Nobody But You. His later work as Aketous explored futurist themes and digital‑age storytelling, expanding his audience and establishing a distinct conceptual identity. Ulterior Motives brings the focus back to the artist himself, reconnecting with the emotional and melodic foundations that shaped his early career.

New Album Alert ⚠️ : Aketous – GOLD

The 4th and final Aketous studio album is set to release 11.11.2026!

This will not be the last Aketous song, but this will be the final full length Aketous studio album.

The upcoming album titled GOLD will feature the current Aketous single Alice Cooper along with 14 additional NEW tracks.

Every one of these tracks at one point was my favorite song that I had written. I will never release a song that doesn’t make me feel anxious to present it to the world.

I hope your enjoy GOLD as much as I enjoyed writing it. I will continue to release individual tracks under Aketous the band, but I really feel like as far as the concept of how I put together albums under Aketous is at it’s high point. To quote myself, “It’s a graceful exit.”

I timed the release to come out 24 hours before my new solo effort. I’m still keeping the solo album name under wraps, but it will be 17 of the very best songs I have written to date. A press release will follow shortly on that. But be assured GOLD will be like the the Aketous Trilogy full of guitars, hooks, and just ALIVE from track 1 to 15.

This album will also contain a special song that I started writing shortly after the passing of my mother. I don’t want to say it’s about my mom. But the sorrow and mixed feelings I had lingering from my father’s passing all came together in the melody and chorus. More recently I was able to understand what the song was saying to me through others grief. Life is brief and as you may have noticed, I often start at that place. The understanding that this is our time to make it count as best as we can and are afforded.

Songs like Everything is Now and Round and Round are insanely catchy and make you want to turn up the volume. But there is also a message in there. I hope they bring you joy and comfort. I hope GOLD along with the other 3.5 Aketous albums will touch people long after I am gone.
