Most top session guitarists I know, the ones that aren’t singers at all- or minimal, sincerely appreciate lyrical based music. They get their biggest thrill out of following the vocals and seeing what they FORCE the strings to do. That is one of the secrets to those songs that get STUCK in your mind and SOUL! Bass guitar- not so much.
